What We’re Reading This Week

March 31, 2010

Books, books, and more books.  I think Hayden reads at least twenty books a day.  Some we read aloud to him, and others he “reads” by himself.  He has a lot of books, so each one gets its time in the limelight.  These were some of his most requested books this week:

The Bugliest Bug

A darling book with colorful illustrations and a good, rhyming cadence when read aloud.  We have fun naming all the different types of bugs.

Ed Emberly’s Drawing Book of Animals

We have an older version of this that belonged to my husband when he was a little boy.  Its condition has deteriorated since Hayden got hold of it!  Although Hayden still isn’t really ready for coloring, he loves looking at the animals and the progression of how they were created.

The Jet Aphabet Book

We bought this book at the aircraft carrier museum in San Diego (also available on Amazon).  The illustrations are great, and while some of the text is a little advanced for a 2 year old, Hayden can name all of the jets by picture recognition.

I was surprised Hayden likes this one so much, I guess because Olivia is a little girl, but I’m so glad he does.  I love the author’s subtle humor.

The Little Engine That Could

This is a classic.  Hayden loved trains, and the illustrations in this book are appealing to him.  Hayden’s copy belonged to one of his aunties when she was a little girl.  Hopefully, we can continue to hand it down!
