I Want It Loud

May 13, 2010

Okay, so I feel as if I mislead you with my recent post about Hayden’s music choices, perhaps led you to believe that I he we are some sort of music snobs, which of course couldn’t be farther from the truth.  We just don’t like anything that’s lame.  And this goes for kids’ music, as well.  Never, in my car, has he requested to hear Big Bird.  It’s like he knows his turf v. Mommy’s turf.  Whatever we play though, he makes one thing clear: “I want it loud.”

At home, he knows he has a little more say, especially in what music is played in his room.  Because my two year old son doesn’t just wake up every morning requesting Some Girls, we gotta have some rockin’ tiny tunes to satisfy all ears.  And all of these surpass the fake-Beatles-baby-lullaby CDs they are pushing at the baby boutiques.

Curious George Soundtrack

This soundtrack is wonderful- it has a bunch of music that wasn’t in the lame movie.  Jack Johnson’s voice is so soothing, and the sweet melodies are very singable.

Free To Be You and Me

I had this as a kid and loved it so much.  With songs and short stories told by Mel Brooks, Carol Channing, Alan Alda, and the like, this one is just full of 70s goodness.

Let’s Go Everywhere

Medeski, Martin & Wood.  Awesome, awesome, & awesome.

Baby Bunny Classics Set

There has to be some down-time, chill music in every kid’s collection.  These are the sweetest CDs.  One is all classical guitar and used to put Hayden to sleep when he was an infant.  The other has sweet nursery rhymes and other tunes.  Hayden loves to sing along.

Here Comes the Science, Here Come the ABCs, Here Come the 123s

They Might Be Giants.  We don’t have the complete CDs, but we have a bunch of songs from them burned to disks.  Hayden loooooves them.

My Name Is Roosevelt Franklin

Matt Robinson for Sesame Street.  Saving the best for last, people.  This album is so rad, words cannot do it justice.  It is out of print- the copy we have belonged to Scott when he was a little boy.  Hold onto your wallets, readers.  You just might get a chance to WIN a CD version of this rare album.  I can feel a contest coming…

Is it wrong that my son’s music repertoire exists of the music between sections on NPR?
