Listen To Your Mother On Mother’s Day

It’s no secret that I have struggled with motherhood.  Not that it doesn’t come naturally to me, because I am actually better at cleaning up poop than I expected.

I have struggled with motherhood because of the changes that come with it.  Nobody warned me that upon becoming  a mother I would lose ten percent of my hair at once only to grow a new supply that is more unruly and unpredictable than the first.  That I would develop a third “boob” with a belly button for a nipple, that sticks our further than my original pair.  That I would love my son so hard that it hurts.  Or that over a year after he was born I would finally admit I was a basketcase and seek out a therapist.

For me, motherhood stirred up all kinds of crazy, in both good ways and bad.  Despite trying to maintain a functional relationship with my husband, attending countless mommy-and-me groups, and venting twice a month in therapy, I have spent a good portion of the last three and a half years feeling isolated and misunderstood, wondering if other mothers felt the same way. I needed validation!
