Journal-y Me

June 23, 2011

I have been wanting to purge.  Go through everything and throw it out.  But as much as I long to de-clutter, I can’t shed my attachment to this stuff.

Don’t get me wrong- I am no hoarder.  On the grand scheme of things, my home is relatively tidy and organized.  But I want to go beyond that.  I want to be free.  I want minimalism.

Today I thought I would get started.  I dug into my first bin of stuff, prepared to lug almost all of it to the recycling bin.  I didn’t get very far.

I came across an old journal, back from the days when I thought, “Ooo, I’m going to start journaling. I will be so journal-y.” I think I journaled for two days.  I hated it.  I was embarrassed by my own writing staring at me from the page.  It seemed forced, but with a Dear Diary quality to it.

Ha!  Never would have thought that I would become a writer blogger.

So, I opened up this mostly empty journal and found this strange little piece from at least ten or twelve years ago.  And I’m going to share it with you before I toss the notebook.

Just don’t laugh.

Ignorance is bliss, but there won’t be any surprises for me.

As I gain insight, I am sickened by the realities.

Just who is the mind trick being played on?

I have a bin of my old journals and I am torn by wanting to burn them because OH MY GOD WAS I SO DRAMATIC AND BOY-CRAZY, but also kind of liking this record of who I was. I stopped journaling after college because I was always afraid of someone finding it, so I censored things and it was just useless.

Someday you will go back and get a kick out of reading all of those.

I liked that….was it about a MAN??? sure it was.
I was boy crazy and journal crazy, things don’t change that much. LOL

I think that this online journal is just PERFECT.

Actually? I think it was about religion. Or maybe politics.

Your entry sounds very poetic! I like it! I was a journaler, but…I’ve slacked off. It’s the blog’s fault! I always blame the blog for everything.

Oh, you didn’t know I was a poet? HA! So true about the blog- it can be blamed (or credited, depending on the situation) for anything.
