We’re Movin’ On Up

July 25, 2011

Two years ago…

Scott: Let’s ditch this rental and buy a house.

Me: Um, k, but we sort of need money to do that.  Lots of it.

Scott: Dude, so-an-so just bought a house.

Me:  And, it’s a one bedroom one bath, right?

Scott:  Well, doo-mi-flatch said we should just talk to a realtor because we haven’t even tried.

Nine months ago…

Scott: We should just stop looking because we can’t afford anything.

Me:  Oh, noooo, buster.  You’re the one who got us into this, you and your positive thinking.

Scott:  I’m just sayin’

Me:  No sayin’!  We will find it, we just have to keep looking.

Two weeks ago…

Scott: Yeah, I can see it.

Me:  I have a vision.

Scott:  Yeah, I’m sure you do.

In case you missed last week’s announcement or skipped the first part of this post, I’ll fill you in now.  We bought a house.  Well, we are buying it as I type.  Because buying a house is not like buying a shirt, or a table, or even a car.  Turns out, buying a house in California takes a long time.

And we have made it to third base (the first getting a YES instead of a NO, and the second making it though an inspection that revealed a house likely to still be standing when our son graduates from high school).

Now, it’s time to get picky.  Time to ask the seller to pay for stuff that’s broken.

Unfortunately, removing these broken gilded mirrors isn’t one of those things.

Nor is removing the plush yet turquoise-ish carpet.

Assuming we can work through the details, we will be moving in just a few short weeks!

We’ve got our work cut out for us.  At least we’ll have this built-in beauty waiting for us when we arrive.

Wow. That’s awesome and incredibly hard to do in SoCal! Congrats! I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for you. 🙂

Yeah, everyone we know who has bought a house did so because Daddy gave them the down payment. Not going to work that way for us, though 🙂 It’s going to be very tight for a long time, but so worth it.

That’s awesome. It’s so hard to buy in So.Cal, so good for you guys for making the financial commitment! AND?? That stained glass is pretty epic 🙂

Congrats! Good decision. We always feel bad for the people in CA when we watch House Hunters… so expensive! But still better than renting!

I see a pirate motif for your entire house. Work with the stained glass. Everyone loves pirates…
Congrats on the new house – it’s quite an adventure!

Congratulations. We bought our first place two years ago this summer (actually this time two years ago we were moving in!), and there’s nothing like knowing it’s your own place to do as you choose. 🙂

YaaaaaAAAaAaay! Congrats bigtime!! Even if it takes you a while to put your special touches on it, it doesn’t matter bc it’s YOURS and you have all the time in the world.

BTW- I may lose all street cred by saying this, but I like the fireplace the way it is. 🙂
