It’s Not Me, It’s Him.

August 8, 2012

After spending thirty minutes helping Hayden build a train track that took up the entire living room floor, through tears he pronounced it “no good because it doesn’t go enough places.”

This went on for another thirty minutes.

It’s not me, it’s him.

The train tears rolled into snack sobs because I prepared the wrong snack.

At which point I said, “Mommy is going to be in here alone for awhile.”

It’s not me, it’s him.

My refusal to prepare an entirely new snack prompted him to say, “I’m never saying anything to you again.”

It’s not me, it’s him.

And then, as if nothing has ever happened he said, “Mommy, I wish your hair was down to here” and made reference to his chest area, which, in reality, would add at least four inches to my millimeter-a-month hair.

You and me both, Hayden.

ummm, when did you take Gio (Or Jacob) home? Because this happens in my house daily.

it’s not you…it’s them and this phase of holding on and letting go. Seriously.

sending hugs..and wine..and a tiny shimmy, to remind you I’m here. xoxo
